4            Independence Day Celebration                   10 am - 4 pm     Traditional live music, mountain games, kids games, pioneer skills demonstrations. Colonial militia drills and afternoon reenactment.  Food available on site.  FREE. 

11-13    6th Annual Tazewell County Old Time & Bluegrass Fiddlers' Convention

Held at the Tazewell County Fairgrounds, with Friday night band competition, Saturday instrument and band competitions and Sunday morning gospel sing. 

21-25       Pioneer Apprentice Camp                  

Day camp for kids ages 8-14 with hands-on pioneer skills and activities, such as blacksmithing, archery, knitting, dancing, singing and more. Friday potluck and performances by campers for parents.

Advance enrollment required.  Limited vacancies.  Tuition fee, reduced for members.

 August

17    Membership Picnic, Meeting & Auction      4:00 - 6:30 p.m.

Museum members gather to meet, eat and play together with pot luck dishes, family games and election of new board members.  FREE for members.

September

TBD        Pickin' on the Porches                       

Area musicians gather to play traditional bluegrass, old time and gospel tunes on the various porches of the Pioneer Park cabins.  Bring an instrument to join in or lawn chairs and a picnic to enjoy the music with friends and family.  FREE to the public.

8        Gift Shop Savory Sale

Customers sample sumptuous delectables prepared from recipes found in gift shop cookbooks and enjoy special discounts from 10 am until 3 pm

22        Youth Intern Thanksgiving Dinner

5            Frontier Christmas                                    6 - 9 pm

Pioneer apprentices singing carols, musical performances throughout the Pioneer Park cabins, storytelling, hot cider and cookies, Santa and more. Admission is a can of food for the local Food Pantry or a gently used children's book for the Reach Out and Read Program.
